Profit and fees

Net profit per order after cost of goods, marketplace fees, shipping and payment charges.

Please reach out to your account manager to enable Profit and fees for your company.

Overview

Profit and fees is a premium add-on that shows the real profit of every order: revenue before GST, minus cost of goods, minus every fee, minus refunds without a return, with every fee itemised.

Why use it

  • See which orders, products and channels make or lose money, down to a single order.
  • Bring every channel's, courier's and payment gateway's fees into one place.
  • Find loss-making orders and products before they cost you more.

Before you begin

  • The Profit and fees add-on is enabled for your company.
  • Your items have costs (from purchase orders or Set costs).

Why Profit and fees is premium

Premium add-on  Profit and fees is a paid add-on, enabled for your company by your O2M account manager.

Most sales dashboards stop at revenue. Profit and fees shows what you actually kept, down to every order, after cost of goods and every fee each channel, courier and payment gateway charged you.

  • Profit on every single order: revenue, cost of goods, commission, channel fees, shipping, payment charges, return costs and refunds, line by line.
  • Every fee itemised: see exactly which fee ate into which order, instead of one lump sum in a settlement report.
  • Granular views: profit by order, product, channel and month, with margins over time and the spread of order margins.
  • Loss-makers found for you: orders and products sold at a loss, units sold without a cost, and orders whose fees have not arrived yet.
  • One place for all channels: Amazon and Shopify fees come in automatically; settlement files from any other channel, courier bills and your own rate cards fill the rest.
  • Honest numbers: GST and tax withheld by marketplaces are kept out of profit, and estimates are clearly marked until the real fee arrives.
  • Profit dashboard: revenue and profit over time, margins, cost breakdown, order margin distribution and product profitability, with every chart you can explore by channel, product, category, brand or warehouse.
  • Detailed reports: Net profit, Fees, Product profitability, Profit and loss and Profit: needs attention, each with filters and CSV download.
  • Reports on schedule: e-mail profit reports to your team daily, weekly or monthly.
  • Your own dashboards: add profit measures to any dashboard you build.

Use it to decide which products to push, which channels to grow, where to change prices, and which costs to cut.

How profit is counted

Figure 2.1  Accounting → Profit and fees.

For each order, net profit is worked out the same way:

LineWhere it comes from
Revenue (before GST)The units that were sold and kept
−Cost of goods sold (COGS)The cost each unit left the warehouse at
−FeesCommission, channel fees, shipping, payment fees and return costs
−Refunds without a returnMoney refunded when the goods did not come back
=Net profit

GST you charged buyers belongs to the government, so it is not part of revenue or profit. Tax the marketplaces kept from your payouts (TCS and TDS) is shown, but it is not a cost.

Where fees come from

  • Amazon fees, read automatically (or click Read now).
  • Shopify Payments fees, read automatically.
  • Settlement or payment files from any channel, uploaded as CSV or Excel (up to 15 MB) with Upload a fees file. O2M recognises the columns by their headings, shows how it read the file, and lets you correct it before saving.
  • Fees typed by hand on an order with Add a fee.
  • Parcel shipping cost: from Shiprocket bookings, your courier rate cards, a cost typed on the parcel, or your courier's bill uploaded by AWB. The courier's bill always wins.
Figure 2.2  Uploading a channel's settlement or fees file.

A fee that arrives before its order is in O2M waits and joins the order when it is imported. A later settlement replaces the fee line it corrects.

Charges that are not for one order

Storage, advertising and subscription charges are not spread over orders. Import them with Import channel fees from a CSV; they are taken off the whole period's profit, per channel and month.

Reading the page

  • Performance: revenue and profit over time, margins over time, average order value and profit per order.
  • Cost breakdown: total fees as a share of revenue, commission and channel fees, shipping and returns.
  • Order margin distribution: most orders in the higher bands means profit is broad-based; a tall bar at a loss means orders to look into.
  • Product profitability: top products by profit and loss-making products.
  • Needs attention: loss-making orders, units sold without a cost price, and orders whose fees have not arrived yet.

Tip  A number marked est. uses your payment fee estimate until the real fee arrives. Set the estimate in the Profit and fees settings.
