Export to Master Products
Preview, set SKUs and stock, and create Master Products.
Overview
Export to Master Products turns ready catalogue products into Master Products with SKUs and opening stock.
Before you begin
- A catalogue mapping is saved.
Export
- 1Select products in the list (or filter, then select all) and click Export to Master Products.
- 2Read the summary at the top: how many will Create New Master, Link Existing, are Already Linked, or Need Correction.
- 3Check each product's card: Product ID, structure (simple or with variants), brand, category and status.
- 4Check the SKU. Leave Master SKU blank to have one made for you (see below).
- 5Enter starting stock where it is asked (see below), and prices if the catalogue does not have them.
- 6Click Export to Master Products.
How SKUs are assigned
A product does not need a SKU while it is in the catalogue. Every product and every variant gets one at export:
| The product has | SKU in Master Products |
|---|---|
| A SKU typed on the export screen | That SKU. |
| A SKU in the catalogue (typed or imported) | That SKU. |
| No SKU | One is made from your SKU rules (Settings → SKU rules), such as BRAND-CATEGORY-NUMBER. |
| A variant without its own SKU | The product's SKU plus the variant's option codes, such as TS01-BLK-M. |
| A SKU that already belongs to a Master Product | No duplicate: that Master Product is linked and updated instead. |
After export, the SKUs are shown in the catalogue too: the product's SKU in the product list and on the product page, and each variant's SKU on the Variants tab. A SKU, once given, never changes on later exports or when variants are added.
Good to know A SKU you type must not already be used by another product. If it is, export stops for that product and tells you which SKU clashes.
What each outcome means
| Outcome | What happens |
|---|---|
| Create New Master | A new Master Product (and its variants) is created with a SKU. |
| Link Existing | The product matches a Master Product you already have, usually by SKU, so that one is updated instead of creating a duplicate. |
| Already Linked | It was exported before. Review any differences instead. |
| Needs Correction | Something is missing, such as an O2M category, an image, key features or another required field. Fix it and export again. |
Starting stock
How a new product gets its stock depends on whether your company uses Warehouse Management:
| Your setup | Starting stock at export |
|---|---|
| Without Warehouse Management | Required. Enter an Opening stock for each product, or each variant. It is filled from the catalogue when the catalogue has a stock column. |
| With Warehouse Management | Not asked. Products are created with no stock, and stock comes in through the full warehouse or inventory process: goods receipts against purchase orders, or stock adjustments. |
Good to know With Warehouse Management, the export screen says Stock is added through Warehouse Management (goods receipts or adjustments) in place of the stock box. This keeps every unit in your warehouse traceable to a receipt or an approved adjustment.
What O2M checks
- Title, at least one working image, an O2M category, key features and a saved mapping.
- Exporting the same product twice never creates a second Master Product or a new SKU.
Good to know Export never lists anything on a channel.
