Picking

Create picklists, pick from bins, and handle units that are not found.

Overview

Picking collects the units for orders from their bins. A picklist tells the picker which bins to visit, in walking order, and which lot to take.

Why use it

  • Pick many orders in one walk.
  • Take the right lot every time.
  • Handle missing units without losing the order.

Before you begin

  • The warehouse runs in Warehouse Management mode.

WaveOrders chosen by a rule (channel, ordered before a time), up to 500 orders split into lists of 200: courier cut-offs

Creating a picklist

Figure 14.2  Outbound → Picklists.
  1. 1Open Outbound → Picklists → New picklist. O2M lists the orders ready to pick in the warehouse.
  2. 2Choose the kind: single (one order per list), batch (several orders on one list) or wave (orders chosen by a rule such as channel or ordered-before time; up to 500 orders, split into lists of up to 200).
  3. 3Orders with backordered units are left out unless you include them.
  4. 4Assign the list to a picker, or let a picker take it in the scanner app.

O2M plans each line from a bin in walking order (pick-face bins first), and names the lot to take for lot-tracked items. Print the picklist as a PDF if you prefer paper.

Automatic picklists

On the Picklists page, each warehouse can make picklists on its own. Lists are made for nobody; a picker takes one. Orders still waiting for stock wait for it.

SettingWhat happens
Every order, as it comes in (default)Each new order gets its own picklist
In waves, on a timerEvery N minutes (30 by default), waiting orders are grouped, up to N orders per list (20 by default)
OffMake picklists by hand

Picking

The picker scans the bin and then the item, or taps Picked. Taking from a different bin is allowed: scan that bin instead. Picked units move to the packing bin.

Short picks

If units are not in the bin, mark the line Not found (you are asked twice). O2M then:

  1. 1Moves those units to Quarantine so they stop selling, and raises an alert.
  2. 2Looks for the units in another bin in the same warehouse and adds them to the same list.
  3. 3Otherwise looks in another linked warehouse, and only then records a backorder.

A later count finds the missing units or writes them off.
